Indonesia

Indonesia was my last stop before heading home. This country is made up of over 17 000 islands! I was fortunate enough to visit three of them; Bali, Lombok and Gili Trawangan. Each of them offer something unique and beautiful, although each has breathtaking scenery. In Bali we walked through the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, found hidden waterfalls and trekked to the top of a volcano (and that was just in the first 3 days!). We visited hot springs, coffee plantations, and elaborate temples. We watched many traditional dances and went to a yoga studio that will forever hold a special place in my heart.                  Lombok was the next island on our list, so we hopped on the 5hr. ferry and set off towards the east. Here we visited a local village and got to learn about the way of life of the people. The villagers even treated us to a musical performance as well as a traditional fighting match. While in Lombok w...

Malaysia and Singapore

Our first stop in Malaysia was Penang. This city is full of history and we were lucky enough to have a great local guide show us around the area. We also went on a hunt for some street art and found some really cool designs all around the city. We even had to go inside a restaurant to find one! Lunch was has at a cute cafe and the rest of the afternoon was spent at the pool trying to combat the heat. Later we went to Penang Hill for supper, sunset and some live music.         Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia (or Malay as some locals call it), was the next stop on our journey south. This is a bustling city full of things to do. We explored the markets before heading  to the Petronas Towers for a light show. These towers were quite high and it was cool to see them all lit up at night. The following morning we went on a food tour around KL, exploring various areas of the city such as Little India and Chinatown. It was fun to try all the different fo...

Southern Thailand

Khao Sok National Park was our first stop heading towards the south of Thailand. Once we got settled away, we quickly made plans to go tubing down the river. It was such a great time! Lots of laughs and some bumps and scrapes. Reminded me a lot of tubing down the Humber River, just with different scenery - there were snakes and monkeys in the trees. After tubing, we decided to go on a night safari through the woods by foot. It wasn’t what I expected. There were a lot of geckos and some other insects. We did see what looked like a big weasel though, which was neat. The next day we went on a hike through the park then hopped on a bamboo boat to go to a hidden lunch spot. To cool off, we spent the afternoon swimming and learned the “real way” to wear a life jacket, according to the Thais.  The following morning we went to visit the elephants again. After my first experience, I’m not going to lie, I was a little scared. These creatures are just so massive!! But they truly are gentle g...
