New Beginnings
August has always been a time of preparation for me. A month spent gathering supplies and crossing off to-do lists. Of buying pencil cases, notebooks and book bags, which later turned into stickers, pre-cut letters and fancy borders. It's a time of anticipation and excitement.
However this year, my preparations look a little different. I've traded in my pencils for a passport and my four walls for a flight. For the first time in 26 years, I won't be going to school in September. That's right, I'm packing up my life into a 55L backpack and taking off around the world! Am I nervous? You better believe it! But do I think it will be worth it? Absolutely!!
Despite all the planning that has gone into it, this upcoming year has always felt more like a fantasy than a reality. But as I sit here in my living room, the reality of it all is beginning to hit. Although I still have another few weeks in Corner Brook before I leave, I have to say goodbye to my house in just five short days. Five days, how is that even possible? So wild.
In order to keep everyone up to date with where I am in the world and what I'm doing, I decided to create this blog. Feel free to follow along and maybe even post a comment or two. I can't promise you that my entries will be frequent, as wifi may be scare at times, but I hope that I can at least share a glimpse of my experiences to come.
So, where am I off to first? Here are some hints:
- The country grows more than 55 varieties of corn.
- It is the sixth largest producer of gold.
- Surprisingly, it has the highest sand dune in the world.
- It holds one of the seven wonders of the world.
- It's home of the largest flying bird on earth as well as 7.5 million alpacas.
